I was saddened to read that Barry Halstead had passed away. He and I were teammates on the wrestling team (BSL & State Champs in '65) for three years along with Ron DeBenedictus, Peter DeFazio, Mike Derenzo, and Doug George, also members of the class of '65. Since Barry and I were both in the 147 lb. weight class, day after day we would practice with each other, and once in a while we would have a match to determine who would be on the varsity team. What Barry may have lacked in speed and strength he more than made up for it in skill, competiveness, and a passion for the sport. He was a formidable opponent and a terrific teammate. Ave atque vale!
I was in Barry's first wedding. When I got engaged I invited him to be in mine. No response other than his wife said he wanted nothing to do with me. Shaken I accepted this for years. When his mother passed I had had enough so I went to her wake. Barry was glad to see me. I asked about his wife's comments. He said he went thru a bad divorce and she did that kind of stuff to his friends. I met his second wife who seemed nice. Glad I did it. RIP.
