Holly Andrews (Goolsby)

Holly Andrews Goolsby passed on Sunday June 16 in Bedford MA of emphysema. She was survived by her son Laird, his wife and their two children Ben and Grace. They live in Brookline NH.

She is survived by her brother Clark in Chicago He is a graduate of NSHS Class of 1962. “Holly was my best friend,” he said, “We talked weekly and ratted on everyone!”

Holly’s husband, Richard, passed in 1999. Her beloved daughter, Lee, passed in 2003 at age 31 of a rare genetic defect mimicking MS. That Lee lived comfortably for so long is a testimony to Holly’s unique medical training and her complete dedication.

She attended Belknap College in NH, graduated as a Medical Technologist, and went to work at The Jimmy Fund where she had interned. She went to Massachusetts General Hospital and ultimately became manager of the Pathology Department laboratory. She received her 30-year pin and promptly retired.

The next day she joined Dr. Ann McKee’s research team at BU. McKee is particularly known for her ground-breaking work on repetitive traumatic brain injuries of NFL players. She developed the lab protocols to analyze diseased NFL brains. She retired – for the second time - in 2015.    She holds several patents particularly in aspects of Botox development.

In the past few years she’s focused on The Jimmy Fund. Donations may be directed to danafarber.jimmyfund.org/site/donate.

Oh My God.  Holly and I were very close in homeroom (with Mr. Kochanek).  We chatted often during homeroom.  Please accept my sincerest of condolences.
